Location: Victoria Commitment level: One-off/Ongoing In person or online? It depends!

Australian Religious Response to Climate Change (ARRCC) is a multi-faith, member-based organisation of people from around Australia who are committed to taking action on climate change. Our members represent a variety of religious traditions. We believe that as people dedicated to the common good, inspired by our beliefs and energised by our spirituality, people of all faiths can and should be at the forefront of creating a safe climate. While celebrating the uniqueness of our different traditions, we stand together in working for an ecologically and socially sustainable future.

ARRCC acknowledges the special place that Aboriginal culture and spirituality have in upholding care for the Earth. We have much to learn from the intimate connection our Aboriginal brothers and sisters have to country.

ARRCC’s position is that climate change is a profoundly moral issue. The Earth is of intrinsic value and we have a duty to protect it. Furthermore, civilisation itself and all forms of life including our own are entirely dependent on the ecological integrity of the natural world.  We are part of and dependent upon the Earth’s ecosystems, not separate from them. We therefore have a responsibility to care for the ecosystems on which life depends, particularly for (a) the most vulnerable people, often those in low-income, climate vulnerable (so-called ‘developing’) countries who are bearing the negative impacts of climate change earliest and hardest, (b) future generations, and (c) other species with which we share the Earth.

Our special interests include…

  • Encouraging places of worship to become involved in action on climate change through running their own services and displaying “no new coal or gas” banners.
  • Encouraging supporters to visit politicians to push them to go greener.
  • Letter writing campaigns to politicians.

You can get involved by…

joining our Victorian planning group, being involved in one of our many campaigns or encouraging others in your faith community to become involved in Greenfaith/ARRCC.

We meet up…

online each month for 90-minute planning meetings, but attendance is not mandatory.

We want someone…

with faith (not necessarily of one of the mainstream religions) who is interested in joining any of our peaceful, respectful and moral-based actions on climate change.
